Salvador Litvak (Sal) was born in Santiago, Chile and moved to New York at age five. He attended Harvard, NYU Law, and UCLA Film. His latest movie is Guns & Moses, an action thriller about a beloved small-town rabbi who becomes an unlikely gunfighter after his community is violently attacked, starring Mark Feuerstein, Neal McDonough, Alona Tal, Christopher Lloyd and Dermot Mulroney. Sal is sharing his thoughts and experiences about the roller coaster ride of making Guns & Moses, a pro-2A, pro-Torah movie in a town that is neither.
Captain Walehwa is a highly esteemed law enforcement officer with an impressive career. In addition to his professional accomplishments, he is an exceptional speaker. Consequently, we have invited him to return to regale us with insightful stories of his career, and address pertinent issues concerning the Orange County Jewish community. As we are aware, there has been a surge in overt acts of “Jew-hatred,” including vandalism of religious institutions and street harassment of Jewish individuals. Is this phenomenon occurring within our own community of Orange County? If so, what measures have been implemented to address this issue, and how can we - as individuals with a vested interest - contribute to the protection of our Jewish community members.
Assistant Sheriff Shane Matthews is a 31-year veteran of the Ventura County Sheriff's Office and a lifelong Ventura County resident. He began his career in 1995 working at the Honor Farm in Detention Services and completed his patrol training in Ojai. Shane has a vast amount of experience within the Sheriff's Office having worked patrol at East and West County patrol stations, Special Enforcement, Detectives, Narcotics, Aviation Unit and Search and Rescue. Shane was the Classification supervisor for Detention Services and most recently served as the Assistant Police Chief for two of the Sheriff's Office contract cities (Ojai and Camarillo). Shane has also held many collateral assignments including First Aid Instructor, Watercraft Unit, Bike Patrol, and Peer Support. He was an operator and captain of the SWAT Team and manager of the newly formed Incident Management Team. Shane is a graduate of the Supervisory Leadership Institute (Class #420) and the Jail Executive Institute (Class #2) and has a bachelor's degree from California Coast University in Criminal Justice. In addition, he has served on the board of directors for the Ojai Valley Family Shelter and the Camarillo YMCA. Shane and his wife Wendy have been married for 32 years and have three children.
