What to Expect
Joseph Samuels was born in the Jewish quarter of the old city of Baghdad in December 1930. In 1941, at the age of 10, Joe survived the Farhud, a Pogrom carried out by Muslim mobs against the Jewish citizens. Fearing for his life from the open anti-Semitism and violent persecution of Jews in Iraq after the failed war to eliminate Israel in 1948, he fled to Iran and then to Israel, where he became a homeless penniless refugee. Three years after serving in the Israeli defense force Joe left for Canada and started a family. In 1978, after 22 years in Canada, Joe moved with his wife and three teenage children to sunny Santa Monica California where he still resides today. In 2020 at the age of 90, Joe Samuels published his memoir, Beyond the Rivers of Babylon, a journey of optimism and resilience in a turbulent century. Joe will share…
